GBH News Rooted Series Branding
GBH News Rooted Pilot Cold Open
GBH's series Say Brother, later rebranded to Basic Black, is the longest-running program on public television focusing on the interests of people of color. For 2025, GBH wanted to relaunch the series after over 50 seasons to be a multi-platform, multi-format magazine program, featuring short documentary content, news headlines, interviews, live performances, and more. The newly branded GBH News Rooted brings a perspective that ranges from communities around the corner to issues and ideas resonating across the globe.
In order to bring GBH News Rooted to life, our Creative Team built a series of assets to help brand the series and remain flexible for digital and broadcast platforms. This includes series art, thumbnail templates, series open templates, segment transition elements, animated backgrounds, promo templates, lower thirds and text callout templates, and more.

We took inspiration and paid homage to the 1960s PBS music series Soul! with our animated open and transition elements, applying vintage television grain and textures to our graphics and bringing the history of public television's focus on black artists, intellect, culture and joy to our current moment.
GBH News Rooted Cold Open Transition Elements and Motion Design
The transition elements we created for our series cold open translate to social platforms, vertical formats, and all elements of this rapidly evolving and experimental series, truly amplifying our content with unique visual flair.
GBH News Rooted Premiere Promo 2025
Within the first few months of premiering, GBH News Rooted has produced several viral segments online, discussing black hair, ICE detention, and the Economic Blackout Boycott, telling stories that matter to our local communities and sparking conversation with communities of color across the country.
