Priced Out: The fight for housing in Massachusetts
** 2023 New England Emmy Award for Serious Feature, Multiple Reports Nominee**
Priced Out explores the housing crisis in Greater Boston and New England, tackling the rising costs, landlord misconduct, development opportunities, gentrification, and more. The series is reported by GBH News correspondent, Liz Neisloss, who contacted our team to contribute to her reporting with motion graphics that can better illustrate the impact of housing on our communities.
We explored opportunities to create motion graphics that can fall under the GBH News brand and colors, while remaining unique to "Priced Out" as a series. After exploring several visual options, we settled on a look that blends Monopoly housing pieces, 3D schematics and blueprints to enhance the storytelling message. Utilizing Sketch and Toon lines in Cinema 4D, we built several housing types that could look like 2D objects in final renders. We also utilized an Orthographic camera view to give the piece a board game look, rather than placing objects in perspective.
I also worked as the lead editor for Priced Out's video on mobile homes, which was nominated for a New England Emmy Award for Serious Feature, Multiple Reports due to the strength of the reporting, as well as the imagery and graphics. Because of the success of the series, GBH News continues to colaborate with our team on special project and reporting motion graphics.
